Title: "Optimal Control Synthesis on Lie Groups Via Gradient Ascent in Function Space"
Abstract: A number of mechanical control systems can be modeled using
matrix Lie groups. Notably, finite dimensional quantum mechanical systems,
as encountered in quantum information science, can be modeled as control
systems evolving on unitary groups. In this talk, I will introduce Lie group
models and derive a simple functional gradient of the controlled dynamics
that can be used to numerically optimize controls for a variety of applications.
Examples from quantum control, satellite attitude motion planning, and
geometric phases in robotics will be presented.
