Title: "Life in Antarctica: 1986 Contrasted with 2014"
Reiner Friedel earned his Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Natal, in Durban, South Africa in 1991. As part of his training, he spent an entire year in Antarctica as a member of the 27th South African National Antarctica Expedition. He returned to the South African base in Antarctica in 2013—2014 to launch stratospheric research balloons with a team of scientists led by Dartmouth Physics & Astronomy Professor Robyn Millan and Dartmouth Physics Graduate Student Brett Anderson. In this informal, non-technical, family-friendly talk Dr. Friedel will share photos, videos, and stories of wildlife, research, and daily-life in Antarctica, contrasting “then” and “now”.
