Hans-Reinhard Müller is a Space Physicist specializing in numerical modeling of the heliosphere, the region around the Sun where the solar wind interacts with the surrounding interstellar gas. In this region, ionized matter in the plasma state interacts with neutral gases in a complicated way. This research relates to space missions such as VOYAGER, IBEX, IMAP, and the Hubble Space Telescope. Dr. Müller applies this type of plasma-neutral physics also to astrospheres (heliospheres around other stars), and to exoplanets that lose neutral gas through atmosphere evaporation. After working as a researcher at the Univ. of Delaware, UC Riverside, and Univ. of Alabama Huntsville, Dr. Müller joined Dartmouth beginning of 2003.
