Title: The Roman Space Telescope: Expanding Our View of the Universe from Space

Abstract: At 7:26am on Sunday, August 31, 2026, NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope launched from Cape Canaveral aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket to its final destination at the second Earth-Sun Lagrange point (L2). From there, Roman will carry out a pioneering science program, utilizing angular resolution and sensitivity comparable to the Hubble Space Telescope, but with a field of view 100 times larger and overall survey speed 1000 times faster. I will give an overview of the Roman observatory and science program, with a particular focus on the Core Community Surveys targeting cosmology, exoplanets, and general astrophysics that were developed as part of a broad community process. I will conclude with a description of some of the planned and future Roman science happening here at Dartmouth, including research funded by competitive NASA programs.
