Title: "Symmetry Breaking and Persistent Flow in Superfluid Circuits"

Abstract: Ultracold Fermi gases provide an important platform for studying the universal properties of strongly interacting quantum matter, with the potential for improving our understanding of unusual systems ranging from high-temperature superconductors to neutron stars. I will give an overview of challenges and progress in this area of physics, and explain how superfluid circuits of ultracold fermionic atoms can be used to investigate critical phenomena and transport properties of quantum fluids. The main focus of the presentation will be the results of a recent study of topological defect formation after a quench to the superfluid phase, and how this results in the spontaneous appearance of a quantized current in a superfluid circuit.
