Abstract: In this talk, I will discuss the relatively new field of quantum engineering with superconducting circuits. I will begin by describing how to build microwave resonators and introduce nonlinearities by coupling them to superconducting qubits like transmons. These systems are currently being leveraged to build superconducting quantum computers so I will discuss how to operate simple qubits and how they can be multiplexed to make large-scale quantum computers. Then I will discuss some of the exciting opportunities presented by these systems for creating synthetic photonic materials and how controllable interactions can be introduced. I will conclude with some recent work on hyperbolic lattices and how to construct families of flat-band lattices which allow for the simulation of quantum interactions in exotic lattices.
