Title: "How to Construct a Quantum Computer"

Friday, September 20, 2019

Intended Audience(s): Public
Categories: Lectures & Seminars

Abstract: Quantum computers promise to revolutionize the way that we do computational physics. We expect that future quantum computers will help us improve our calculations of molecules, strongly-coupled electrons, and interacting fields. In the present, current devices have limited reliability and we are at present not able to compete with classical computation. In this talk, I will first explain how quantum simulations are mapped to quantum computers and how this this mapping fixes the required reliability. I will then discuss paths for generating reliable devices using a combination of quantum control and quantum error correction. I will conclude with comments about the current state of experimental devices.
